Data and AI for Houston businesses

We are a data team based in Houston. We build the dashboards, forecasts and automations that small and mid-size businesses here use, and we are not a national firm with a Houston page.

Why a Houston page at all

Most of this site is about the work, and the work is the same in Houston or Hartford. Three things change here.

First, we work in English and Spanish. In Houston, the person who runs the operation we would model and the person who signs off the project are often most comfortable in different languages.

Second, we are based here, so we work on Central Time and can meet in person when it helps. Third, we already publish analysis of Houston's own public data.

We already publish analysis of Houston's own data

The City of Houston publishes its residential building permits every month. We built a dashboard on that file, and anyone can open it: the Houston permits dashboard.

While building it, we found that 2019 in the published file is a byte-for-byte copy of 2018: all twelve months and all three columns are identical. Any twelve-month total that touches 2019 is wrong, so the dashboard drops those windows and says so on the page. A smooth line drawn through them would have hidden the problem.

We check whether a number can be true before we draw any chart, and we say on the page what we did about it.

What Houston businesses usually come with

Four situations, each tied to a published figure you can check at the source.

Operations data that never made it into a system

Metro Houston employs about 238,700 people in manufacturing. The smaller firms among them usually run an ERP whose standard times stopped matching the floor years ago, plus a spreadsheet someone keeps by hand. Everyone knows the numbers are wrong and nobody has had a week to prove it.

Lead times nobody has measured

Houston is the fifth-ranked U.S. container port by total TEUs, and trade, transportation and utilities is the metro's biggest employment category at about 702,400 people. Distribution businesses here deal with slow suppliers all the time and still plan against the average lead time. The trouble comes from the two weeks a year when a supplier is far slower than that average.

Client profitability nobody wants to compute

Professional and business services employs about 557,600 people in the metro. The smaller firms can usually name the client they suspect loses them money. They cannot prove it, because two partners use "utilization" to mean two different things.

Small financial firms with reporting deadlines

Financial activities employs about 181,400 people in the metro. Advisors, lenders, insurance agencies and accounting practices usually have clean data with a deadline attached: client reports, pipeline, exposure, renewals. Someone rebuilds them by hand each month, and that person has better things to do.

We provide analytics, automation and research tooling. We do not provide investment advice, signals or portfolio management. If your firm has compliance obligations, we work inside your systems and under your rules, with an NDA in place before any data is shared.

If your business is not on that list, we just ask more questions on the call.

How we work with a Houston business

The same way as anywhere else, with one local difference: we can meet in person when it helps.

Every project has a fixed scope, with a written statement of what is in and what is not. If we are not the right people for the problem, we say so on that first call, before anyone has spent three weeks on it.

Questions people ask

Do you have an office we can come to?

No. We come to you, meet somewhere convenient, or work remotely. Nothing about the work needs an office.

Can you work in Spanish?

Yes. Spanish is a native language on our team. Documents, calls, handover guides and training materials can be in either language, or both.

How is this different from hiring a national firm?

You talk to the people who lead the work, and they are here in Houston, on your time zone.

What does a first project cost?

We do not publish prices, because the number depends on your data. We usually send a fixed quote within two business days of the call. The scope is fixed, so once we agree on the number, it does not move.

Want to talk it through?
